Top Ten Flies for February 2019
Apaches are still appearing strong in the February F4F chart, with the Apache Black taking top spot (up from 5th this time last year), while White & Orange making 5th & 6th spot respectively. Apaches regularly outperform other flies this time of year due to the alluring movement of the mink which becomes a trigger point for Trout and Grayling.
The Oakden's Claret made a surprise new entry into 2nd position, not your typical winter fly, but will come into its own during spring, so maybe people are preparing early for their upcoming season.
Snails on the other hand are another valuable pattern to have; this time of year we would recommend fishing them near the lake/river bed where they cling. You can keep these for later on in the year for when you notice snails floating on the surface during the warmer months.
