Salmon flies are used for fishing larger fish such as salmon or steelhead. The hooks on these salmon flies are much stronger to support this extra weight, with various different brands of hook such as Ken Sawada or Salar are amongst the strongest, great if you will be fishing in areas with larger salmon.
Traditionally fly fishing for salmon is most popular in the colder months from late autumn into spring when salmon migrate from the ocean to spawn in fresh water. Salmon runs occur annually which makes a great fly fishing opportunity to catch on their return journey. Swimming up to the spawning grounds of the river takes an enormous effort, so salmon flies are typically lager in size to attract any hungry salmon swimming past!

We work closely with our fly tyers and can tie most patterns to order: a different hook size, barbless instead of barbed, a tungsten bead instead of a gold head; just ask.
Sending a request is free and you are not committing to buy. Depending on where we are in our tying cycle it can take a month or two for a pattern to arrive, and we may not be able to tie every request (fair usage applies); but if we can, we will.
