Pattern Dressings

When creating eye loop and / or tying in the treble hook . Use a bobbin threader. Push the bobbin threader through the outer layer of the Gudebrod Braid, down the center core and out, leaving sufficient length of braid. Practice to establish correct finish length. Thread on the hook. Loop end of braid through bobbin threader and pull - lassoing the hook until tight on to main length of braid with spare end floating loose; this needs to be closely trimmed. Same method when creating the 'eye' only this time pull through stopping to leaving practical eye loop. Super glue whole length of braid from neck of loop to eye of hook. This stops kinking and keep fly shape with sufficient flexibility. Tying the Snake Fly 1 Cut the desired length of the mylar tubing (1” too 3” as required) to match the length of the mount being tied 2 Slide mylar tubing over the front hook and slide down the mount until you reach the treble hook. Tie in with silk securely. 3 Put the eye of the front hook in the vice ready to tie the front of the fly. This will leave the treble hook in fresh air – so mask the barbs if preferred. 4 Tie down front of mylar tubing at the head then tie in a throat of cock hackle fibres underneath the mount. 5 Tie in a wing of black squirrel tail to reach the bend of the treble hook. Tie in a jungle cock on each side and form the head. Whip finish and varnish

Request a fly, size or option

We work closely with our fly tyers and can tie most patterns to order: a different hook size, barbless instead of barbed, a tungsten bead instead of a gold head; just ask.

Sending a request is free and you are not committing to buy. Depending on where we are in our tying cycle it can take a month or two for a pattern to arrive, and we may not be able to tie every request (fair usage applies); but if we can, we will.
