Anglers value the Diawl Bach Red Head for its effectiveness across a wide range of conditions and its ability to attract fish when other patterns may fail. It can be fished on its own or as part of a team of flies on a multi-fly leader setup, and it's often used in a variety of retrieves. For best results allow the Diawl Bach Red Head to sink, retrieve very slowly and hang fly on the lift; however some favour more erratic movements, depending on the behaviour of the fish and the conditions of the day. Although a Welsh pattern, the Diawl Bach is a universal pattern wherever Brown Trout and Rainbows are stocked. This is also notable pattern used at Loch Earn.
